Hello and Welcome!

Bluebells on a forest floor
Bluebells seen on my walk

So- this is my first blog post and I’m not sure what to write- nor am I entirely sure how to do this entire blogging thing. Or this entire web design thing. But there’s nothing for it except to give it a try!

At this point, the website is still very basic- I’m not even sure which theme to go with! So it’s entirely possible that by the time anyone reads these words, the site actually looks nice. For now, I have so many questions- do I make my own background? I’m a writer, not a graphic designer- will it look home-made and amateurish? I don’t have the funds to hire someone to design it, and also… I like to do things myself.

Also… these blocks in the Gutenberg editor… powerful, I can tell that much, but I’m far from mastering them. As you can likely see from the basic layout of this post. And I gather the editor has gotten a lot of hate. It is a bit complicated, with many options to choose from.

As time goes on and I do more on and with this website, I’ll get better at it- for now, I’m busy reading books on basic web design. For the blog, I’m planning a mix of project updates, reviews of books I’m reading and posts about whatever else catches my interest. Like these lovely bluebells (says my plant ID app) in the picture above. I saw them on a walk a few days ago. As far as I’m aware, bluebells are indicators for ancient woodland… yet these were growing at the side of the road, next to a wall. Hm. Granted, it is one of those old, overgrown Irish stone walls with trees on top, so maybe that qualifies as ancient woodland? The bluebells looked happy, anyway, and made me happy seeing them!
